What’s Inside The Providence River?
Web Design, Data Visualization
Design Studio 3

Working with Ashley Cai and Enya Pan, “What’s Inside the Providence River” was a month long, research extensive project, where we gathered all kinds of data about the providence river. We then turned those into visualisations and finally created a website showcasing our findings.  We all worked collectively on data collection, Ashley Cai was responsible for coding the website, Enya Pan worked on data refinement and  3d scanning of objects, Jyot Thind worked on sound and visuals.

“Have you ever lost something in the river?”  |
Adobe After Effects
I interviewed local residents of Providence, asking them, “Have you ever lost something in the river?” Using their audio recordings, I created simple sound waves using an AI tool, VEED. These waves were then superimposed onto the locations of the river mentioned in their stories. Through gradual transitions in and out of the frame, the visualization highlights the community connected by the river, while leaving room for individual voices to breathe.

Magent Fishing, Go pro footage
As part of our research, we tossed a magnet tied to a rope into the river and dragged it along the riverbed. Through this process, we recovered objects like old soda cans and a tripod. Our GoPro footage also captured additional finds, including shopping carts, scooters, and even fish.
